Here's six ideas to help you develop an action plan for your business.
1. Excuses, what excuses?
I don’t want you to take this wrong way, but many businesses don’t have a plan of action, purely because they make excuses. You work hard, you’re putting in the hours, and that’s great. However, you need to MAKE TIME to work ON your business not just IN it if your business is to grow.
Of course, a business plan can have a bad name. They aren’t just for going to bank and asking for a loan. Your business plan maps out the steps to achieving your VISION for your business. Think of it as the roadmap asking you “where do you want to go?”
2. I want to go forward!
That’s the answer I was looking for! Having the DRIVE and DETERMINATION to make your business a success is the key ingredient. You add a little structure and guidance to that recipe, and you are on the road to success.
3. Find the gaps
You’ve picked the destination, now figure out the path you take to get there. It’s just like when you go on holiday. You don’t start off at the end of your drive, and worry about traffic at the lights round the corner. You pick your destination, book your hotel, then PLAN your route.
4. 90 Day Sprint
People say that the longest journey starts with the first step. So it might be easier for you to visualise a where you want to be in the next 90 Days in your business rather than 5 years. Break your 90 Day goals down into the smaller steps you need to take, and you will be organised in no time! Why not take a morning off, pour some coffee, and have a think about where you want your business to go in 90 Days and what you need to do to get there. Simple right?
5. Allocate Your Time
You’ll need to set time to carry out your plan. As a starting point, I would recommend 5 hours each week – an hour each day - working on the activities in your 90 Day Business Action Plan. Don’t get behind then charge back ahead. The KEY is little and often. Chip away at it. Once you get into the daily habit, it’ll become second nature to you and your business will start to transform.
6. Location. Location. Location.
Put your plan where you can see it. You want to be FOCUSED on it every day. Display it with PRIDE. This plan represents how you’ll achieve your VISION for the business. Put your name to it, back it, and deliver on it!
